What’s up guys! Welcome back.

Today, we’re going to talk about the problems of vgs 722.8 temic for Mercedes-Benz A Class W169.
So if you’re the car owners of this luxury icon or you’re the mechanics who are specialized in the transmission repairing, you must keep on reading.

For the better comfortable user experience, Mercedes-Benz A class & B class, like mercedes benz temic vgs 722.8, all equipped with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with torque converter.
Torque converter, in technical sense, is not that necessary as CVT function is good and comfortable enough.
However the combination of CVT & Torque Converter delicately brings high satisfactions to Mercedes car owners.
The Mechatronics, a component that consists of mechanics & electronics, collaborates the function between CVT and torque converter.
In which, the channels & valves are so called mechanics part.
Versus the TCU is the electronic component, where the defects will appear commonly with different error codes.
Whenever you encountered the transmission problems, very 1st thing to do is to verify the Faulty Codes.
The mechanics will connect your TCU/TCM onto computer to do analysis.

Here you can see the common faulty codes and their meanings:

0793 > The RPM signal from secondary RPM sensor is not available
0722 > The RPM sensor from output RPM sensor is not available and you need to replace the component: Y3/9B5, the CVT output RPM sensor.
1634 > Component Y3/9n1 CVT is defective or the voltage supply is under voltage
0717 > The RPM signal from CVT output rpm sensor is not available
0730 > The gear ratio in CVT is not permissible
0657 >The voltage supply of the control solenoid valves in the CVT is faulty

With the understanding of these faulty codes, the mechanics then can decide how to sort out the problems.

The Mercedes Automatic Transmission with the CVT gearbox can be very problematic.
Most of the time, the failure causes are coming from the internal components and there are some common symptoms.

As we always say, the earlier you can diagnose the problems, the easier you can sort out the problems.
So next, I’m going to discuss some common symptoms that are telling you the vehicle may have the transmission failures.

And you must keep on watching the video till the end because we will also give the handy tips for you to maintain your transmission so you can longer its lifetime and better its performance.

Now, let’s see the Symptoms of a faulty TCU /TCM first.
The common situations will occur when 722.8 transmission control unit goes wrong, such like:

#1 Limp Home Mode
<WHEN YOUR 722.9 7-SPEED TRANSMISSION GOT STUCK IN LIMP HOME MODE!!
#2 Power losing
#3 Engine Check Light on
#4 Postpone reaction of gear switch

#5 Speed sensor fault
#6 Gear Stuck

Whenever the internal malfunction occurs, the vehicle will go into the limp home mode normally.
The CEL warning light will be on to tell you the problem is happening.

The common faulty code will be the 0896 which means the impermissible adjustment of the step down ratio in CVT (the Continuously Variable Transmission).

If you saw #0793, which as we just mentioned, means the RPM sensors Y3/9B4 need a replacement.
One more example, the faulty code #1634 means you need to replace the CVT component Y3/9N1 or the Voltage Supply is failed.

Once you sense these mentioned symptoms, the best way is to find your trustful workshop to look into the problems profoundly.

Many our repair shop customers, they are very professional mechanics who are specialized in the transmission overhaul.
They would look into the problems and contact us for the correct parts they need.

Next, I’m going to share the juicy handy tips that you can use to take care of your automatic transmission system.

Tips#1 Check transmission fluid level periodically
Use the dipstick, wipe it clean, and insert it to check the red color transmission oil and make sure the fluid level is proper.
The transmission oil itself should be a bright red color.

If you see the dark color or smells like rotting fish, it’s time to have your mechanics to replace the oil.

Tip#2 Use the right fluid for your transmission
Refer to your vehicle’s owner manual to decide what type of transmission fluid you should use.

In fact, there are different kind of fluids inside the car that are crucial to the whole system.

You can refer our before post which I will put the link down in the description for more maintenance ideas.

Tip#3 Warm up your car before you drive

I know I know, even myself is one of the drivers who always hops into the driver’s seat, starts the engine and gear the car to go.

The benefit to allow your car to warm up for a few minutes before you go is the fluids will go over the engine, the turbo, or the transmission during this warm up time.
This will help the mechanism system to function better.

Tip#4 Change the transmission filter regularly
Yeah yeah, now you know your car automatic transmission has a filter which requires to be changed from time to time.

Some newer vehicles may not have a transmission filter but the car owners of those do have filter please remember to replace the filter whenever you get your transmission flushed.

Tip#5 Get your transmission flushed regularly
Refer to your car owner manual for the ATF change and get your new transmission flushed every 2 years.
Some mechanics would recommend you not do the flush if your car is more than 10 years old.
Consult your repair shop if the flush is necessary to your vehicle.

Tip#6 Don’t change gears while the car is moving.
Be gentle and patient while change the gears.
Many cases are happening when you want to shift the gears from “drive” to “reverse” as the buttons are near to each other.

Tip#7 Have regular check on your engine cooling system
By doing so, it can ensure the transmission fluid pumping thru the gearbox is cooled too.
So the transmission will not get overheated.

Tip#8 Don’t use your car for towing.
The overloaded towing will cause the transmission fluid to oxidize or burn and this will cause a lot of damage to the transmission.

With these handy tips, you can take care of your transmission with no difficulties.

Meanwhile, whenever the failure symptoms appear, visit your auto shops for professional assistance.

Now you can imagine how important it is if you have a trustworthy auto shop who can back you up.
