Is it time for your jeep transmission repair? If you are fearful that there is a problem with your 42RLE transmission, you can look for the warning signs that your Jeep’s transmission is about to fail.
In order to safely operate your vehicle, any signs of failure could affect your ability to shift gears and drive. If you are noticing these signs of failure, you need to have your Jeep checked by a professional mechanic!
Signs Of 42RLE Transmission Problems :
Loud noises:
If you suddenly start to hear a whining, humming, or clunking noise under your car like you've never heard before, you may have 42RLE transmission problem.
Leaking fluid:
Have you seen a bright red or possibly dirty dark red fluid on your driveway or garage floor beneath your car? Transmission fluid should never leak, this could lead to a very serious and complete breakdown of your transmission.
Delayed Shifting:
When you drive an automatic transmission, it responds immediately or is there a delay when you shift?
It should shift smoothly from one gear to the next.
Check engine light on:
Check Engine light can help you know there is a current or upcoming problem in your car.
The light can indicate any problems from different systems in your car, not just your 42RLE transmission.
So, have the mechanic to help you sort out the true reason.
Limp Home Mode and Stuck in 2nd Stage:
Most newish vehicles have a "limp home mode" that is intended to prevent further damage whenever something is wrong with transmission.
When the vehicle gets into this situation, your Jeep will be stuck in 2nd gear and unable to gear to higher speeds.
So, losing car power as long as the limp home mode are both the common problems.
If you notice any of the signs here, you should get to a mechanic as soon as possible. 42RLE transmission problems are not something to fool around with. Generally, the longer you wait to get them checked out, the more severe and costly to repair they become.
You can refer to my very own experience which I spent thousands to repair my Honda accord 2004.
How to know if my transmission needs the repair
Earlier to find the vehicle problems is a good way to save you money.
If no above issues are found, you should check the transmission fluid level regularly upon the instruction in your user manuel.
Also, some experts recommend to get your transmission flushed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles depending on your vehicle.
I know there are a lot debates about transmission flush discussion, so the best way is to consult the mechanic you trust.
Jeep Transmission Repair Cost
The average transmission replacement cost starts at about $1,800 and can cost as much as $3,400 depends on the severity of the damage.
Also the cost varies from the car models and the manufactured year.
The transmission in a jeep is responsible for converting the energy generated by the vehicle's motor into measured speed and torque to provide efficient driving force.
Sometimes, jeep transmission repairs require the replacement of other part; while worse problems may require even the overhaul rebuilt process.
We want to emphasize that it is always important to have your car to have profound check at the first sign of a transmission problem, because finding the problem as early as possible is always helpful to car repair.
Since we know the common symptoms of the 42RLE failure, next let’s see what else problems your 42RLE transmission may encounter.
Chrysler 300s
Chrysler recalled around 250,000 vehicles equipped with 42RLE transmission in November 2005. Owners have complained that their vehicles would stall unexpectedly while they’re driving even at low speeds.
Apart from that, here are the other most frequently reported issues across its other models.
Faulty Electrical System
Electrical system faults are common among some 2013 Chrysler 300s. The problems have caused three crashes and 15 fires.
Air Bag Issues:
One of the worst safeties recalls in Chrysler 300’s history involves air bags and the driver-side inflator modules.
Musty Smell for HVAC Vents
The HVAC system of some Chrysler 300 units from the 2005-2009, 2012, 2013, and 2016 model years ever had the musty odor emission problems.
Steering Column Squeak
Squeak sound appears at the base of the steering column when turning the steering wheel.
Carbon Build Upon Valves
Carbon building up on the valves tends to cause the check engine light flashing and misfires on the 2nd generation Chrysler 300.
Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler first appeared on America’s roadways in 1986.
It has been viewed as one of the most iconic cars of the last 20 years and is highly worshipped in the off-road community.
But here are some common complaints that you should know about:
Death Wobble
This issue can cause the steering wheel to violently shake after hitting a bump or other road imperfection at higher speeds.
TIPM failure
Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) failure commonly appears as a fuel or battery related issue.
Check below video for further more introduction of the TIPM.
Wireless Control Module Fault
The wireless control moduel is like the vehicle’s brain.
So when there is a failure in the vehicle’s computer system, the car will lose the ability to communicate with the wireless control module and the car will fail to start.
Exhausted manifold cracks
If so, the manifold needs to be replaced immediately to avoid dangerous driving conditions.
If you drive this model, have your car checked for these issues to avoid costly repairs down the line.
What happens when the 42RLE valve body goes bad?
Many people who in love with Jeep may be very happy to see the 42RLE transmission for sale.
However, back to our discussion about 42RLE transmission, please don’t forget to pay attention on the 42RLE valve body.
The valves will wear down, the channels can be abraded and become oversized when the valve body goes wrong.
Also, the whole valve body unit can become deformed.
The signs of a bad valve body like fluid leaks or slipping gear shifting will appear.
What's 42rle solenoid pack?
Solenoids are one of the most important components of an automotive transmission.
They are tiny, they are insignificant, but crucial important.
They act as gates to control the flow of transmission fluid and enable the transmission to switch from gear to gear upon the signal from the speed sensors.
If you sense the automatic transmission acting erratically, very possible it could be the transmission solenoids are failing.
Some of the apparent 42RLE problems come from the transmissions hard shifting issues, primarily between the first and second gears with the additional possibility of getting stuck in second.
When this problem occurs, check the solenoid pack first then the whole transmission system.
Otherwise you may encounter the same situation like I experienced with my Honda Accord.
Conclusion
Many problems with your 42RLE transmission started from small. Ignoring signals like the symptoms listed above often leads to super expensive repairs. Some repairs are small and affordable and most important, they can prevent huge bills in the future.
